Recall Notice: NHTSA Recall #24E094
A2Z EV, a leading provider of EV adapters and charging solutions, has announced an important safety recall for its original Typhoon NACS to CCS1 Adapter (V1 with the slider lock). This proactive measure ensures enhanced safety and usability for customers who rely on the adapter for their EV charging needs.
Why the Recall?
The recall follows concerns regarding the adapter’s locking mechanism and potential surface temperature issues during high-amperage charging. Although no safety incidents have been reported, A2Z EV is taking steps to prevent any future risks by providing customers with an upgraded version of the adapter, the Typhoon Pro (V2 Adapter). This V2 model features a more robust locking mechanism and has been designed to meet the latest EV safety standards.
Key Issues Addressed in the Upgrade
- Locking Mechanism: The original V1 adapter’s locking mechanism can degrade after around 10,000 uses, which could affect the secure retention of the NACS connector during charging. In cases of severe wear, the adapter may even stop functioning to protect user safety.
- High-Amperage Charging: During extended charging sessions at high amperages (500+ amps), the V1 adapter may exceed recommended surface temperatures by 5-10°C. This can potentially lead to a temporary reduction in power or a complete halt in the charging session as a safety measure.
Who is Eligible for the Exchange?
This recall and exchange program applies to customers who:
- Purchased the V1 adapter between November 16, 2023, and June 20, 2024.
- Own the original Typhoon/V1 adapter with the slider lock.
- Have not already received a Typhoon Pro/V2 replacement.
- Have not returned or resold their V1 adapter.
How to Participate in the Exchange Program
Eligible customers can start the exchange process by following these steps:
- Visit the A2Z EV Exchange Program Page: Start the exchange process at this link.
- Prepare the V1 Adapter for Shipment: Have your original adapter ready to ship back.
- Verification Photo: Take a clear photo of your V1 adapter, including a note with your name, date, and order number for verification.
Customers who have already received a V2 replacement are asked not to submit another request, as all prior exchanges are documented to streamline the process for eligible participants.
