Rivian Outsells Ford in Electric Van Sales in 2024

Rivian had a big win in 2024, selling more electric delivery vans in the U.S. than Ford. According to data from Kelley Blue Book, Rivian sold 13,560 vans, which was a 68% increase compared to 2023.

Meanwhile, Ford sold 12,610 E-Transit vans in 2024—a solid jump from 7,672 sold in 2023 but not enough to beat Rivian.

Why Rivian’s Van Sales are Taking Off

Rivian’s vans are doing well thanks to its big deal with Amazon, which uses them for its delivery fleet. These vans have become a key part of Rivian’s growth story.

Ford Still Leads in Total EV Sales

Even though Rivian sold more vans, Ford still sold way more EVs overall in 2024—97,865 units compared to 51,579 for Rivian.

A big reason? Price. Ford’s EVs tend to be more affordable:

  • Mustang Mach-E starts at $39,995
  • Rivian R1S starts at $75,900

Ford’s lower prices make its EVs more appealing to mainstream buyers, while Rivian’s higher prices attract customers who want premium features and adventure-ready performance.

Looking Ahead

Rivian’s partnership with Amazon is giving it a major boost in the commercial EV space, but the competition isn’t slowing down. Ford’s strong sales show the power of more budget-friendly EVs, and as more automakers enter the market, the race for EV dominance is heating up.

Rivian may have won the van battle, but the overall EV war is far from over!
