Rivian Offers 10,000 Miles of Wind and Solar-Powered Driving for New and Pre-Owned R1S and R1T Purchases

Beginning today, September 23, 2024, Rivian will power the first 10,000 miles of all new or pre-owned R1S and R1T vehicles purchased before the end of the year with 100% renewable energy. Rivian has stated that no matter how you charge or where you charge, they will purchase renewable energy certificates on your behalf as Rivian continues the transition to a cleaner planet and cleaner grid.

So what’s renewable energy matching?

Renewable energy matching allows people like you and me or corporations to support the creation of more renewable energy on the grid, to power all of our electricity consumption from cleaner and renewable sources. It is impossible to trace the flow of electricity on the grid from individual sources so renewable energy matching helps support a cleaner energy grid for everyone.

10,000 miles of 100% renewable energy

For every vehicle purchased through December 31, 2024, Rivian will purchase 4.8 MWh of renewable energy certificates (equal to 10,000 miles of driving) generated from wind and solar projects across the United States. Every purchase will enable the full 4.8 MWh regardless of where you charge, even if you charge at Rivian Adventure Network locations which are already powered by 100% renewable energy.

Where’s the renewable energy coming from?

First and foremost, Rivian is dedicated to helping add renewable energy to the grid where it can have a great impact. Rivian is using a variety of mechanisms to develop or purchase renewable energy, but in all cases, Rivian prioritizes supporting specific, identifiable projects whose benefits extend beyond the clean energy they generate.
