Rivian Suspends Production of Amazon Delivery Vans Due to Parts Shortage

Rivian has temporarily halted production of its Electric Delivery Vans (EDVs) for Amazon due to a parts shortage, the company announced on Friday. This production pause is the latest in a series of supply chain challenges faced by the electric vehicle maker, impacting its commercial partnership with Amazon, which holds a 16% stake in Rivian and has ordered 100,000 EDVs for delivery by 2030.

While Rivian did not disclose details about the specific part or supplier involved, the company reassured that the shortage would not affect the production of its R1S and R1T models. Despite the suspension, Rivian expects to recover the lost production.

This disruption follows Rivian’s earlier announcement of lower deliveries for the current quarter, attributed to a factory shutdown in April for retooling. Amazon, which accounted for 19% of Rivian’s revenue last year, has not yet commented on the situation.
