Rivian and iKamper Unveil Special Edition Skycamp Mini Rooftop Tent

iKamper, the most popular rooftop tent provider for Rivian owners, has partnered with Rivian to launch a special edition tent. The Rivian x iKamper Skycamp Mini is based on the highly acclaimed Skycamp 3.0 Mini but tailored to complement Rivian’s adventure-ready vehicles.
Kaila Vandermey, Commercial Lead for Adventure Gear at Rivian, emphasizes the synergy between the two brands: “Rivian vehicles are built to empower exploration. Partnering with iKamper on the Rivian x iKamper Skycamp Mini, is the perfect accessory to complement and elevate that adventurous lifestyle. No matter where your adventure takes you, this mini rooftop tent delivers the freedom to explore and rest wherever you choose.”
Young Noh, General Manager at iKamper, shares the excitement: “We’re ecstatic to release the Rivian x iKamper Skycamp Mini. Rivian and iKamper share a commitment to innovation, craftsmanship and adventure. This rooftop tent is the perfect blend of form and function—engineered for seamless integration, premium comfort and the durability to go wherever the road leads.”
Want to check it out in person? Visit iKamper’s Seattle HQ on April 5th from 9 AM to 12 PM for an exclusive look at this collaboration.
What sets the Rivian Edition apart from the standard Skycamp 3.0 Mini? It boasts PFAS-free materials and a unique aesthetic that includes blacked-out hardware contrasted with a tan color palette and Rivian’s signature yellow accents.
Additional features include exterior Rivian badging, locking crossbar brackets that integrate with Rivian’s Adventure Key Set (sold separately), and enhanced non-locking tent latches.
The rocky black hardshell is ultra durable, withstanding any weather conditions and trail challenges. We appreciate the choice of this matte finish over a gloss-black option for its robust and practical appeal.
Inside, the tent features Rivian badging and a deluxe self-inflating mattress, offering a significant upgrade over the standard foam mattress in the standard Skycamp 3.0 Mini.
The windows even feature a “drawstring” design for quicker tiding of the exterior canopies, and mesh windows to let the breeze in while keeping bugs out. The roof has a “Skyview” window to give extra light in the day and a view of the stars at night.
So what’s the cost? The Rivian Edition boasts a price tag of $4,595 while the Standard Skycamp 3.0 Mini costs $4,545 (when paired with rocky black shell and inflatable mattress) plus tax and shipping if not picking up in Washington.
At just a $50 difference, the Rivian Edition is a welcome surprise, considering the exclusive design scheme. Opting out of the inflatable mattress in the non-Rivian model saves you $350, but the upgraded comfort is well worth it. Trust us.
You can purchase the tent directly from iKamper, here, but unfortunately Rivian referral gear shop credits can’t be used towards this purchase.
Pair the newly released Kammok Crosswing Awning with this iKamper for the ultimate camping setup. Check out our latest video on the awning for a closer look.
iKamper is offering a complimentary propane-based Disco Series Stove System–a $515 value–when you purchase a Rivian x iKamper Skycamp Mini. This promotion is valid through 4/15, while supplies last.
The rooftop tent is compatible with both Rivian R1T and R1S models and weighs a mere 137 lbs, making it one of the lightest hardshell rooftop tents available. Installation requires Rivian crossbars (sold separately).
- Mounted over the R1T bed: Expect a 5-10% range loss. For minimal impact, mount the tent with the thicker end towards the cab.
- Mounted over the R1T cab or R1S roof: Expect a 10-15% range loss, depending on driving speeds.

iKamper’s biggest competition among Rivian owners is Colorado-based Roofnest. Let’s see how they compare:
- Price: iKamper’s Skycamp Mini retails for $4,595 compared to Roofnest’s Condor Overland 2, which is typically $3,745 but often discounted to $3,180.
- Customer Service: Customer support is crucial. Online reviews and firsthand accounts suggest that Roofnest’s customer service may be lacking, particularly if issues arise. In contrast, iKamper is renowned for offering some of the best customer support in the rooftop tent market.
- Sleeping Area: Both models accommodate two adults comfortably. The Roofnest mattress is slightly shorter by 1.75 inches but compensates with an extra 1.75 inches in width.
- Exterior Shell Dimensions: Roofnest’s shell extends 3 inches longer than the iKamper’s, which fits just within the tailgate trim of the R1T without overhanging. However, it is 6 inches narrower.
- Exterior shell design: iKamper features a wedge design that can impact range by 5-15% when optimally positioned. The Roofnest’s boxier shape tends toward a 10-20% range loss, which worsens when mounted on an R1S roof. Notably, Roofnest includes built-in rails for mounting accessories like recovery boards or axes, although this could exacerbate range loss.
- Lighting: Roofnest offers both interior and exterior lighting, requiring external USB power. While convenient, lighting should not be a decisive factor—consider more critical aspects such as price and design. If needed, aftermarket lighting solutions are available for the iKamper.
Consider these factors to choose the rooftop tent that best suits your needs and budget. Check out the Roofnest Condor Overland 2.
This is a great product and the pair go really well. I just bought the Skycamp DLX Mini which to me is a better deal for $100 more than the Rivian version?
* Strange that there is no lock for the Skycamp itself in the Rivian branded one! Anyone can open the tent and sleep in it (or damage it) while you have parked and left!
* the DLX Mini has the cork bed layer that keeps the tent more warm, quieter and less condensation than the Mini 3.0 and Rivian branded 3.0.
