Steering Performance Upgrades

Enhanced steering calibrations for Sport and Off-Road drive modes to further optimize steering performance.

  • Sport drive mode: Maximized tire feedback and enhanced cornering precision.
  • Off-Road drive modes:
    • Reduced steering wheel kickback when you drive over rocky terrain.
    • Enhanced steering effort and damping to improve feedback controlled rotation or drifting over gravel.
    • Improved steering torque feedback when you drive over loose surfaces and if wheel slip occurs.

NOTE: All-Purpose, Snow, and Conserve drive modes remain unchanged.

Additional Improvements

  • Improved the performance stability of apps on the center display.
  • In Navigation, improved the stability, usability, and responsiveness to touch gestures, such as swiping.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the center display from responding properly to multi-touch gestures after streaming video content protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM). (Thanks SnazzyLabs for the report.)
  • Alexa now works with YouTube.
  • Fixed an issue in Apple Music that prevented certain users from signing back into the app.
  • Increased the availability of on-demand battery conditioning when the vehicle battery is low.
  • Fixed an issue that caused the “range is too low” notification to repeatedly appear during on-demand battery conditioning for DC fast charging.
  • Improved calibration to display the appropriate seat conditioning icon.
  • Reduced active grille shutter noise from the front of the vehicle when it wakes from sleep.

Enhanced Driver Assistance and Detection

Enhanced perception upgrades the autonomous and active safety features on R1 Gen 2 vehicles.

  • Improved system performance when sensors are temporarily obstructed by snow, mud, or direct sunlight.
  • Improved detection and quicker reaction times to dynamic traffic conditions, such as cut-ins, merges, and stopped traffic.
  • Expanded vehicle detection across multiple lanes and in cross-traffic, with improved visualizations on the driver display.
  • Reduced the number of system disengagements due to poorly marked lanes.

    • Yes, this is what I am waiting for! This would be the biggest improvement for dual motors!

  1. Can we please get reliable roomy entry and exit? Since I leave my car unlocked at home, the truck wakes when I open the door, and none of the profile settings seem ready to go when the rest of the truck is. Roomy entry and exit doesn’t work and tilting mirrors doesn’t work in reverse. If I get out of the truck and back in again, it’s fine.

  2. Rivian’s Quad-Motor and Performance Dual-Motor configurations are always in All-Wheel Drive (AWD), while the Dual-Motor configuration typically operates in AWD but can switch to front-wheel drive (FWD) for efficiency. The Dual-Motor uses an automatic system that decouples the rear axle to run in FWD at higher speeds or when extra power isn’t needed, then automatically re-engages AWD when needed. The Quad-Motor has a dedicated conserve mode that can mechanically disconnect the rear drive unit for maximum efficiency.
    Dual-Motor:
Default: Operates in AWD, but automatically switches to FWD (front-wheel drive) to maximize efficiency at higher speeds and during lighter acceleration.
Automatic Engagement: The rear axle automatically disconnects and reconnects as needed, providing a seamless transition between AWD and FWD.
Enhanced AWD Mode: Rivian is introducing an optional “Permanent AWD” mode for Dual-Motor vehicles, allowing drivers to keep the vehicle in AWD full-time.
    Quad-Motor:
Permanent AWD: Quad-Motor models are designed with a permanent AWD system and feature a dedicated “Conserve” mode that can disengage the rear drive unit for increased efficiency.
High Performance: Quad-Motor provides maximum power and performance with instant torque and precise control, suitable for both on-road and off-road driving.
    Performance Differences:
Quad-Motor: Offers the highest performance and capability, especially in off-road situations or when maximum power is needed.
Performance Dual-Motor: Strikes a balance between performance and efficiency, offering impressive power with some efficiency gains over the Quad-Motor.
Dual-Motor: Focuses on efficiency while still providing capable AWD performance, with the ability to automatically switch to FWD for optimal range.

  3. It just might be the way it connects with SiriusXM, but it will seem to jump mid song back to the beginning or to another song when switching from one set of cell towers to another. I then need to fast forward to get back to live listening

  4. I’m hoping to get an update that removes that high frequency dog whistle whine, when on the highway. And hopefully upgraded automatic directional that turn off after a lane change on any road.

  5. Can we have an on-demand kneel mode instead of kneel every time we put it in park? The quick access panel has space for an additional button and it makes more sense to me.

    • This drives me nuts too. So many awesome features and improvements in the year+ I’ve owned my R1t, but I still can’t send or recieve text’s through the infotainment? I was told this was “coming soon” when I realized it was missing after taking delivery back in June 2024.

      • Yes, at this point this is definitely foundational capability that any modern vehicle has or should have.

        • There is a work around from not having Apple Car Play. You can enable Siri on your iphone (go to settings, Siri and turn on). Then when you want to text say “hey Siri, text (and say the name of the person)” then wait for Siri to respond, then say the message, etc. If a text message comes in, you can say “hey Siri, read the last text message” . All the audio will be through the Rivian. You can also use Siri to play music, etc on the Rivian music system under the bluetooth app.

  6. Will the range for phone key be reduced. It unlocked from half a block away this morning, just walking down the road not going to it. I’ve been in an Airbnb, and had it wanting to unlock outside. It’ll unlock from a distance in situations that one might not think of without constant vigilance.
