Rivian Names Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV as Official Winter Tire for R1T and R1S

Rivian has officially named the Nokian Tyres Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV as the official winter tire for the R1 platform in North America, which is a pretty big nod for a tire many Rivian owners were already looking at. The tire is now available directly through the Rivian Gear Shop, with installation handled through select Rivian service centers. The Hakkapeliitta R5 SUV is a non studded winter tire that works on both the R1T and R1S and was designed with EVs in mind. Between the extra weight and instant torque these trucks put down, winter tires have a tougher job, and Nokian leans on things like Arctic Grip Crystals for better ice braking and aramid reinforced sidewalls for durability and puncture resistance.

This also marks Nokian Tyres’ first official vehicle manufacturer partnership of this kind in North America. The tire carries the Three Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMS) rating, Ice Grip certification, and Nokian’s Electric Fit badge, all signs that it was built and tested specifically for winter driving on electric vehicles while still trying to keep efficiency in check.
