REVIEW: Rivian Halloween Update Includes Knight Rider, Back to the Future, Sound Effects, and More!

Spooky season is upon us and Rivian is going all out this year with its Halloween-themed “costumes” for your Rivian and some new interior colors and lock sound effects. In this article, we will take a deep dive at all the fun that Wassym and the Rivian team have done to make our vehicles a bit more spooky alongside some great 80s stuff.

Welcome to Halloween!

Beginning today, as long as you’ve installed the latest 2024.39 software update and 2.15 Rivian mobile app from the App Store, Halloween mode will be unlocked and you’ll be prompted with a screen inviting you to explore all the fun new additions and easter (or maybe pumpkin?) eggs.

New Lock Sound Effects

As with every Halloween season, Rivian has modified the lock sound effect for your vehicle but the difference this year is that you have a few more options to pick from, including an Owl and Crow.

If you have a Gen 2 vehicle, you get a few more additional sound effects including Spooky and Wilhelm.

You can change the lock sound in the Settings > Vehicle > Access menu

New Interior RGB Colors

A few updates ago, Rivian enabled the ability to change the interior colored lights of your vehicle and with Halloween, Rivian has given us two new spooky colored themes: Foggy Bog and Crimson Moon. Dear Rivian: please keep these colors year round because they look amazing!

Foggy bog is a nice slime-green color
Crimson moon is a perfect crimson-red color that hits the spot

Pumpkins, Crows, Skeletons, and More

The Rivian design team loves to include beautiful fun elements in the Drive Modes and Camping screen, with Halloween this year is no exception as the design team has added some fun easter eggs in almost every screen that features 3D cel-shading.

Spooky camping with pumpkins, skulls, crows, and dead trees. Check it out at night for some green flames 😉
Almost every Drive Mode screen has had spooky elements added

Gear Guard Scarecrow

In the Rivian mobile app (2.15), Gear Guard is dressed up as a scarecrow alongside a crow. The real question is, where is Vampire Gear Guard?

If you loved the 80s, Rivian has you covered

Sounds and colors are nice, but Rivian went all out and introduced some incredible “costumes” this year for the vehicle. Rivian partnered with Universal to license Knight Rider and Back to the Future to bring these nostalgic movie elements directly to your Rivian. Alongside these two costumes, Rivian created its own “Haunted Rivian” theme which features spooky and creepy elements throughout the vehicle and even a surprise appearance from Gear Guard himself.

To get these costumes enabled, make sure you are running the latest Rivian mobile app 2.15 update and head into the app. You’ll see a new section called Get Spooky. Note: costumes are only available while in Park.

Knight Rider

Fans of K.I.T.T. from the original Knight Rider series are in for a treat as all the displays in your Rivian transform featuring sound effects and even light bar effects (Gen 2 only) to mimic K.I.T.T.

Back to the Future

Where we’re going, we don’t need roads… GREAT SCOTT! The classic DeLorean has been brought to life on the screens in front of you featuring the iconic score from Alan Silvestri and sound effects. Don’t forget to check on the Flux Capacitor in the rear display.

Haunted Rivian

Looking for a more classic twist on Halloween? The Haunted Rivian costume turns your vehicle into a creepy, but fun, trick-or-treat machine. Featuring light bar effects (both Gen 1 and 2), tons of spooky sound effects, and even different music choices. Don’t forget to keep an eye out for Gear Guard.

Each costume has plenty of options within the mobile app to enable including sound effects, music, volume control, and more!

What’s your favorite Halloween 2024 Rivian feature? I know I’m beyond excited to rock out to Back to the Future in my R1T and imagine I was traveling to 1955.

All the Halloween fun unlocks tonight at midnight (local time) and is available for a limited time. Halloween effects will be available until November 4th, 2024.
