Super Pacific held an exciting event yesterday at their Portland headquarters, revealing their brand-new X1 camper topper designed specifically for the Rivian R1T. The Rivian Spaces team was also on hand, offering R1S test drives to eager attendees. Members of the Portland and Emerald City Rivian Clubs came out in full force to see one of the first R1T-specific camper toppers hit the market.
While a few one-off campers have been installed on the R1T from other brands, the X1 is the first lightweight camper, weighing in at just 350 lbs, designed specifically for the R1T to be commercially available.
Josh Anderson, Super Pacific’s Marketing Director, shared: “We’re excited to bring the X1 Camper to the R1T platform. Our design team worked closely with a small group of Rivian owners, dubbed the ‘Launch Crew,’ whose input helped us create a seamless fit with the unique features of the R1T. This version of our camper builds on our ethos of modular, lightweight camping, allowing R1T owners to chase their wild pursuits without compromising the everyday utility of their truck.”
R1T Design Integration & Pricing
The X1 Camper is priced at $14,920. While it’s a significant investment, the build quality and attention to detail are exceptional. The “Rivian tax” is only a $1,000 premium over their non-Rivian models. This is less than we anticipated, and it’s a pleasant surprise not to see price gouging from companies, like so many Rivian accessories before it. The additional cost reflects the actual hardware requirements driven by the unique design of the R1T’s features.
Keegan Brosman, a Seattle local and part of the ‘Launch Crew,’ helped test the X1 Camper to ensure seamless integration with the R1T’s key features, such as the gear tunnel, tonneau cover, tailgate buttons, spoiler, and antenna clearance. Keegan has even added custom modifications to his camper, such as integrated interior lighting (pictured below), extra power ports, and an external Starlink antenna mount. His design experience led him to open an Etsy shop where buyers can purchase X1-specific add-ons.
Brilliantly, Keegan had the idea to repurpose his empty spare tire as well as a makeshift shower tub. With the bed cover able to lift 90 degrees and a built-in drain plug, all he would need is some water, a shower head, and curtains to keep his sleeping and living space dry.
Innovative Brake Light Solution
One of the most impressive features of the X1 Camper is its brake light integration. Using a clever light sensor, the camper topper reads the signal from the R1T’s spoiler brake light and instantly triggers the brake light built into the camper. This solves a common problem faced by many owners when adding rooftop tents or other accessories. The camper draws power through the 12V gear tunnel outlet, and Super Pacific has also included an additional 12V outlet in the bed so owners don’t lose any power ports.
Range and Efficiency Concerns
One of the most common questions from potential buyers is about the impact on range. Super Pacific estimates that the X1 Camper will cause a minimum 10% reduction in range. At highway speeds, that range hit could increase to 12-15%. To address this, Super Pacific is working on a front fairing designed to slightly improve efficiency, which will be available as an optional add-on in the near future.
Keegan shared his own experience, noting that before installing the X1 Camper, his lifetime efficiency with 20” Pirelli tires was 2.20 mi/kWh in the Seattle area. After installing the camper, his efficiency dropped to 1.99 mi/kWh on a trip from Seattle to Portland and 1.90 mi/kWh on the return trip. These numbers are impressive, as two other R1T owners driving the same route with 20” tires (but only rock sliders installed) averaged similar efficiencies in the 1.9 mi/kWh range.
The X1 adds 6” of height above the antenna bringing the total height of the R1T to 78.2” at the lowest, and 84.3” at the highest when equipped with the OEM 20” wheels and 275/60R20 tires.
Design Changes and Future Updates
Super Pacific is already planning updates for the Rivian-specific X1 Camper. For all new orders, Compass Yellow clamshell latches will be used to match Rivian’s signature accents. The company is also finalizing the front fairing design to improve the range, which will be available in the near future as mentioned above.
Additionally, Super Pacific plans to release new accessory packages, lighting kits, and other integrations for R1T owners.
X1 Camper Features and Customizations
The X1 Camper offers a variety of customizable options to suit the needs of R1T owners. Standard features include:
- Six powder-coated aluminum color options + three tent fabric color choices
- Three modular floor panels (under the sleeping area) + Exped Megamat Duo LW+ mattress
- 12-volt ports
- YKK zippered and screened tent doors
- Integrated third brake light + locking canopy doors
- Operable cab-side window + choice of a tailgate window or a solid door
- Two-year limited warranty + free installation and no sales tax when picked up at the Portland, Oregon location
While the X1 Camper is compatible with most 270-degree awnings from popular brands, keep in mind that adding an awning could result in an additional 2-5% reduction in range.
What’s Not Included with the X1 Camper?
The following modifications, as shown in photos, are not included with the standard X1 Camper package from Super Pacific:
- All interior lighting
- Internal molle panel or Dometic Go water tank and faucet (available for purchase from Super Pacific)
- Coffee or medical gear bags
- Thunderbolt Adventure Supply camp kitchen
- RiG’d spare tire hitch mount and table w/ cutting board
How to Purchase
Super Pacific will begin installing the first 10 ‘Launch Crew’ campers on customer R1Ts starting in the third week of October. To secure your X1 Camper, Super Pacific requires a $1,000 non-refundable deposit. Current lead times for installation is approximately 13 weeks out of their Portland headquarters.

Featured Accessories: Spare Tire Rack and Gear Tunnel Camp Kitchen
At the event, Super Pacific showcased a RIGd’s UltraSwing spare tire hitch mount. Priced at $1,599, this mount includes an additional receiver tow-rated for up to 10,000 lbs (1,000 lbs tongue weight) and serves as a recovery point. Even with the spare tire mounted, you can still tow a trailer or mount a bike rack.
The only downside to using the UltraSwing is the loss of the R1T’s rear parking sensors and rearview camera functionality. However, for most adventurers, the added utility and towing capabilities outweigh this minor inconvenience.
RiG’d also showed a fold-down table with a slide-out cutting board for an additional $399.
Also featured at the event was a modular kitchen system from Thunderbolt Adventure Supply. This second-generation aluminum kitchen, priced at $4,225 (including the gear tunnel sled), offers improvements over the first generation and still includes a double induction cooktop and collapsible sink basin. The kitchen is frequently on sale for $300 off, making it an appealing option for R1T owners who love outdoor adventures.
