Rivian launched a new public trade-in estimation webpage today which allows potential Rivian buyers to see how much they can get in for trading in their current vehicle. Before this, the only way to see how much Rivian would give you for your trade-in was by going through the purchasing process. Now, Rivian has made it easy to give you the info before you even put down a single cent.
The trade-in estimates that Rivian provides are valid for 30 days or 1,000 miles, whichever comes first. Offer is always subject to change and Rivian may ask you for photos of your vehicle to confirm its condition and features.
I was curious to see what Rivian would offer me for my Rivian R1T so I went through the trade-in process and compared it to other companies that accept trade-ins and provide an instant quote.
Rivian doesn’t ask for much information when filling out the trade-in form so I went with the most standard options each site offered. As a reminder, I own a 2022 Rivian R1T with 42,700 miles. I don’t have any damage to the vehicle at all. I used all this information so let us see what Rivian and others gave me.
Rivian Trade-In Estimate
Vehicle: 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure
Mileage: 42,700 miles
Estimate: $46,150.00
Carvana Trade-In Estimate
Vehicle: 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure
Mileage: 42,700 miles
Estimate: $44,800.00
AutoNation Trade-In Estimate
Vehicle: 2022 Rivian R1T Adventure
Mileage: 42,700 miles
Estimate: $41,000.00
I tried to get a value from TrueCar, CarMax, and Consumer Reports but they would not provide me with online trade-in estimates.
Based on just the two offers I was easily able to get, Rivian offers $1,350 more for my R1T plus if I decided to purchase a new Rivian, I could take advantage of not having to pay any sales tax on my new Rivian which would help reduce the cost of the vehicle by another $2-3k.
If you are in the market for a Rivian, hit up the Trade-In tool and see what you can get. I definitely recommend shopping around and seeing where you can get the best estimate.
