Review: Are the Nokian Outpost nAT Tires Worth It for Rivian Owners?
If you’ve followed me or RivianTrackr for a while, you probably know I’m a big fan of the Nokian Outpost nAT. I ran the 275/65R20 LT version on my old Gen 1 R1T and loved them. But now, Nokian finally offers a version for Rivian’s 22” Range wheels, and yes, I immediately swapped out the stock Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season Elects for a fresh set of 275/50R22 HL Outposts.

Ride Quality: Less Sidewall, Still Awesome
Swapping from the 275/65R20 to the 275/50R22 means losing quite a bit of sidewall, and yeah, you do feel the bumps more. There’s just less cushion between the road and the rim. But honestly? Running an all-terrain tire makes the ride so much better overall. It’s not a luxury car smooth, but it feels solid, planted, and purposeful.
Road Noise & Comfort
Compared to the stock Pirelli Scorpions, the Outposts do make more road noise, especially at highway speeds. But that’s expected, they’re chunkier with more tread. I imagine that’ll settle down a bit as they wear in. Vibration and ride comfort are still great, just a bit firmer than the floaty stock setup.
Handling: More Grip, More Confidence
The new Nokians have noticeably more grip in corners, and that’s probably thanks to their beefier tread. They just bite into the road better than the old all-seasons. Handling feels sharper without being twitchy, something I didn’t expect from a rugged all-terrain.
Weight & Efficiency
Let’s talk numbers. The Pirellis came in at about 37 lb per tire. The Nokians are a bit heavier at 45 lb. Not bad at all considering they’re ATs. Because they’re HL-rated instead of full LT construction, they save a lot of weight and keep the ride more efficient.
I’ve already done a few road trips, and efficiency is holding steady at about 2.17 mi/kWh. That’s only a slight drop from the 2.30 mi/kWh I was seeing with the stock tire,s and miles better than when I ran KO3s and barely got 1.7 mi/kWh.
Looks Matter Too
Stock all-seasons just look… bland. The Outpost nATs give the R1T a way more aggressive stance without going full Mad Max. They’re not as gnarly as the KO3s, but they strike a nice balance. If you want your Rivian to look like it’s ready for anything without feeling like a tank, these are a great choice.
No Fitment Issues
Since the Nokians are the same size as the Pirellis (275/50R22), there’s no rubbing or clearance issues at all. Direct swap. Couldn’t be easier.
Wet Weather and Everyday Driving
Haven’t had a chance to take them off-road yet, but I’ve driven through some seriously heavy Florida rain and they handle it like champs. I feel safer and more confident than I ever did on the stock tires.
Why I Made the Switch
I went with the 22” Range wheels on my Gen 2 R1T and was honestly bummed that there weren’t many good all-terrain options out there until Nokian dropped this HL version. I jumped on it immediately. It’s exactly what I was looking for.
Would I Recommend the LT Version?
If you’ve got 20” wheels, your only real choice for the Outpost nAT is the LT version unless you downsize to 275/60R20. I loved the LT version too, but be prepared for the extra weight and reduced efficiency. For 22s, though, this HL setup is the move.
Final Thoughts
If you’re running stock 22s and want a tire that looks better, feels more capable, and doesn’t tank your range, the Nokian Outpost nAT HL is a fantastic option. It’s not the loudest, lightest, or most aggressive, but it nails the balance.
I wonder how these compare to bf Goodrich trail terrain in the same size. This Nokian and that are more light trail tires then full all-terrain KO3

Yes! They will work with the 22″ Range or 22″ Sport.
