Rivian R2 to Use Large Die Castings, Cutting Complexity and Improving Efficiency

Rivian just dropped some cool news about the R2—it’s getting some serious upgrades in how it’s built. RJ Scaringe confirmed they’re using large high-pressure die castings throughout the body, and in the rear alone, they’ve cut down 50 separate stampings and over 300 joints to just three big castings.

What does that mean? Basically, fewer parts, a simpler build, and likely a lighter, stronger, and more efficient vehicle. Tesla’s been doing something similar with their Gigacasting, and now Rivian is bringing its own version to the table.

Less complexity usually means lower costs and faster production, which could help Rivian keep the R2’s price competitive. Plus, a more solid structure could mean better durability and performance. Long story short—the R2 just keeps getting better.
