Rivian Opens Pre-Owned R1 Shop Nationwide, But Pickup Is Required

Rivian just made it easier for everyone in the U.S. to buy a pre-owned R1T or R1S—well, sort of. As of today, the R1 Shop is open to all, meaning you don’t have to live in a specific state to browse and buy a used Rivian directly from the company. But there’s one big catch: you still have to pick it up in person at the designated Service Center, and not every state is in on the action.

Right now, you can buy a pre-owned Rivian if the vehicle is located in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Nevada, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, or Virginia. If you’re in one of those states, great! If not, you’ll need to enter a zip code from one of them to even see what’s available.

And here’s the tricky part—Rivian won’t ship the vehicle to a closer location. So, if you live in North Carolina but find an R1T in Florida, you’ve got two choices: road trip or book a flight and drive it back home yourself.

This is definitely a step in the right direction, giving more people access to Rivian’s pre-owned inventory. However, for folks who don’t live near an eligible Service Center, the travel requirement might be a dealbreaker. Still, if you’re looking to skip the wait for a new one, this could be the perfect way to snag an R1T or R1S without the long lead times.
