Trump Administration Halts New EV Charging Funds
President Trump’s Department of Transportation just put a hold on new EV charging projects funded by the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) program.
In a letter to states, the Federal Highway Administration announced it’s suspending approval of state plans, meaning no new funds can be committed until further notice.
NEVI, created under the 2022 Infrastructure Law, set aside $5 billion to expand the charging network. The Biden administration had already approved funding through 2025, but Trump’s team is now reviewing the program and pausing further spending.
This move is part of Trump’s broader effort to roll back EV and climate-focused policies. The decision could face legal challenges since Congress originally approved the funding, and courts have already blocked similar spending freezes.
For now, existing projects can continue, but future charging expansion is on hold.

Hoping what is actually happening is a review of how funds are being used. Our government spending is out of control. Charging infrastructure is absolutely a must, a review is not horrible. There are too many people getting rich off taxpayers funds.
