Rivian R1 Bidirectional 24 kW DC Charging Coming Soon; R2 Will Feature 11 kW AC Bidirectional Charging

We’ve known for a while that the Rivian R1 line is capable of bidirectional charging (which allows you to send power in both directions) but details have been slim. In today’s 2024 Rivian Investor Day, we learned that the First-Gen and Second-Gen R1T and R1S are capable of up to 24 kW of bidirectional charging using a special wall charger that will mount in your home. Rivian can accomplish getting 24 kW out of the vehicle by using the vehicle’s DC capabilities.

Additionally, the Rivian R2 will feature AC bidirectional charging with up to 11 kW of power.

We still don’t have any details on when this feature will launch but stay tuned.
